I read the article 2 Days ago in regards to the Reserve Bank of Canada Shorting Gold to $1,740
It is not unusual for Countries to buy and sell large quantities of Gold as protection for their currency / economy. This is usually paper (Contracts) not tangible Gold. Shorting for example.
