Luckily you dont go to jail for a GST bill. And unless you are audited, noone knows. If audited, it may be found you owe some tax and you get a bill. The capital gain of course can be reduced by any capital loss.
But. to be a good law abiding person, the clock does start again from conversion date. The purchase price being original oppie price plus the strike price. A search of the ATO website has the data required.
