Hi@wazzie2 - I'm no expert, so happy to be corrected, but my understanding is the asx daily report is for short sales only.
That is, you borrow the shares and sell them on the condition that you buy them back (the intention being at a lower price) to return them to who you borrowed them from. The ASX daily report only captures the first part of that - the amount of shares that were borrowed to be sold that day. It can be indicative that someone is closing out their position when the total on the ASX report starts to drop but I'm not sure how reconcilable it is.
