Paloma is a leading player in the hot water world. While it is nice to see that they are still kicking the tyres, I too think this is a little underwhelming.
With its present market cap, a company like Paloma could pounce on CFU if it saw a real future in these products. So when they agree to take an $8k unit on a 12 month trial, I get awfully suspicious that they are simply buying time and hedging their bets. Of course if the cell works well, they dont have to wait 12 months before moving towards commercialisation.
It is all moving in the right direction, but still no cigar!
What seems strange is that CFU went for Europe due to a lack of political interest in Australia. That has completely reversed now.
I suspect that there is more chance of Australian govts supporting a mass roll out of fuel cells than elsewhere. Unfortunately the plant is in Germany.
