I do a lot of reading but I find that the things that really impact me are those that I have had to put some work into myself. I try to develop some theories of my own (whether they be right or wrong) and then search for resources that cover the same territory. It is very rewarding (in an ego sense, I guess) to find that others, more learned than I, have trodden the same path and (sometimes) reached the same conclusions.
I have no problem in standing on the shoulders of others to see further but feel that I have to earn the right. I think it's this damn Protestant Work Ethic.
Unfortunately, my "day job" is taking a lot of my time at the moment so I am unable to apply all the effort that I would like. As Riidge would say, I am cogitating.....codge, codge....
