I think these bits to the comment is what Bill Gates was referring to:
"it's good that we have "look at how good I researched, give me likes" type posters now. ..... pretentious as they may ...."
Adding in the qualifiers doesn't dilute it and kinda makes it look like a bit of an Alpha move...
