read a report the other day about the inflation problem being driven by commodities. Apparently the commodities are only going up on supply constraints from covid, not demand. The only demand they stated for “commodities” was from bag holders buying at the top of the cycle.
The report didn’t refer to any specific commodities. I can see a case for gold on this but not as an inflation driver, maybe as bag holders, but since the 70s gold price has been inflated by inflation. Maybe on iron ore, but it’s already had a pull back and you got China reducing rates trying to stoke the economy with the Olympics finishing soon too, also the American consumer coming out to play. Then you have the massive spend on infustructure in the USA and governments around the world aswell as the targets for renewables and EV. As far as I can see most commodities are pretty safe, especially in the EV/ renewables space, long term demand coming without sufficient supply to catch up for a while.
