Regarding why Cannon-Brookes wants the cf generation, it is the value of the connection to the grid. The sites where you can insert 2800 MW are like gold. It is difficult commercially (many parties involved) and complicated technically to create new "sockets" for large batteries. The permits and licences are in place. The political attractiveness of retaining a small portion of the local workforce are real as well.

It's a lot like knocking down an old house in a nice suburb, to put up an apartment block.
