G.a.b.on: The great ambitions of Genmin in ore

The metallurgical company Genmin has great ambitions in G.a.b.on. In addition to the flagship Baniaka iron project, the Australian group is committed to two other equally promising permits, in Bakoumba and near the border between Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and G.a.b.on.

In addition to its country of origin, the Australian Genmin Group has set its sights on G.a.b.on to develop its activity there. The metallurgical company is currently carrying out the “ Fer de Baniaka ” project in Boumango, in Haut-Ogooué, for which pre-feasibility studies are underway. This project will include, in addition to the availability of port facilities in Owendo and the construction of a 60 km long road line to join the existing Transg.a.b.onais. The planned iron ore production rate is 5 million tons per year.

“We are primarily focused on southeastern G.a.b.on, where we have locked in all the potential ground for high-grade DSO iron ore,” the group's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) recently told miningreview.com . “Thanks to the Transg.a.b.onais railway, which runs 670km east from Owendo port station in the capital Libreville to Franceville in the southeast, we are well placed to transport our iron ore once it was extracted and washed," said Joe Ariti.

With its 5,270 km² of property in G.a.b.on, Genmin is focusing on two other projects in addition to that of Baniaka. “Our main project is Baniaka, which is currently undergoing a feasibility study scheduled for May or June this year. Close to Baniaka is Bakoumba, which represents an advantage of regional exploration. The third project, a deposit of iron ore, copper and gold, is located almost on the border of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and G.a.b.on is very unexplored, but represents the land of elephants” , concluded Joe Ariti .
