The nature of
disruptive technology is that no one believes you or wants to believe you. I can imagine that there are some very smart scientists who have spent almost their entire working life and $Xm of other people’s money focused solely on 'refrigerated-based' quantum processing (unknowingly at first) only to find that room temperature quantum manipulation like Archer’s tech is potentially plausible and could find practical applications over their vested interests.
However, with no disrespect to them – such is life. As
@Gerrado has alluded to, national interest concerns could outweigh the need over disappointing a few. For the reality is that other sovereign jurisdictions, who have accepted Archer's Patent, may forge ahead and potentially pave the way for first-mover adoption of the tech in their respective country and therefore leave Australia behind. Therefore, the question of what is in the best interest of our national security has to be asked.
If Archer's tech is indeed a thing that has real capabilities and functionality then, to spark the necessary investments and funds needed to create a bona fide Australian industry, the onus will be on our Patent office to make decisions sooner rather than later. Otherwise, we could be left behind and find ourselves vulnerable to inferior technological defence capabilities, cyber attacks, security breaches, etc, etc. And the national costs of that scenario could be unimaginable.
