Seems like a pretty well researched post. I'm a new holder and bought in understanding the concept of the business but not so much about the deeper mechanics of the technology so I went digging after reading this today.

I couldn't see a date on the that first article you posted but it links concerns about the claimed speeds to a 2019 article. Basically Hedera are claiming 10000tps, but average is around 5000. Worst case is 10 which is 3 x faster than Btc and slightly less than Eth as per the Hedera site.
The 10000 is for wallet to wallet which I think they would have.

The other criticisms in that article relate to the name- Hbar not catchy enough apparently, I think this would be overlooked if it was cheaper, faster and more energy efficient.
Seems to be 1000- 2000% cheaper per transaction and uses .00017kwa vs 100kwa (Eth) and 885kwa (Btc). from Hedera site and the article.

You have mentioned the volitilty of Hbar could be a issue but with such huge savings this could be overcome imo. Perhaps hedge for it like airlines do for fuel. At the time of that article it was ranked #55 but google tells me its 32 now, I don't enough about crypto to know if that effects volatility.

Another of the main issues mentioned in that article and by you is that's its too exclusive and not true open source. I personally don't think that is such a negative if you look at the companies already involved and are looking to attract big business however it appears in Jan 22 Hedera board voted to purchase the algo from Swirlds and open it up to the public for more engagement and development.

Further to that in September last year the Hedera governing body allocated $5 billion in Hbar to accelerate adoption and grants to ecosystem partners. Wonder if TYM is getting some of that!?

Haven't done enough reading yet on powerledge to comment on that and i agree there would be issues that need to be ironed out and ultimately paying customers but I'm happy to have a punt here.

I like the Macquarie connection and the fact that Niv is buying up big.
