Well its pretty plain. A lot of the European NATO members weren't very good about keeping up their commitments to NATO. Its hard to draw the conclusion that secretly they were planning to attack Russia when they were recently describing themselves as "brain dead". That seems to be the green light to Putin to try and exploit the situation. Backfired big time.
