Gindalbie awards $70m camp contract to WA company
Sarah-Jane Tasker From: The Australian December 03, 2009
GINDALBIE Metals has started awarding key contracts for its Mid West iron ore project, with a $70 million camp deal won by Doric Constructions, a West Australian company.
Doric was awarded the contract for the construction of the main camp and accommodation village for the $2 billion Karara project, 225km east of Geraldton.
“We are pleased to be able to announce the award of this important major contract for the Karara project to a West Australian company,” Gindalbie managing director Garret Dixon said.
“The construction camp will be a modern, state of the art accommodation facility designed to provide functional, comfortable and efficient accommodation and services to a significant proportion of the estimated 1500 workforce that will ultimately be involved in construction of the Karara project.''
Chinese state-owned entity Ansteel is a joint-venture partner in the project and the two have also flagged pursuing other projects together.
The camp will be located near the old Karara homestead, close to the site of the main concentrator and plant and, once completed, the main construction camp will be able to accommodate up to 1350 personnel.
