You call yourself a trader (generally means short term) and then you talk about your long term chart view. Which is it?
Since were talking long term because you brought it up,
I guess you aren't aware (or choose to ignore) of the biggest most long term chart out there starting from the turn of the 1900s, it shows the share market over the last 100 years has made consistent gains and has over the long term gone North!
And in fact, as time has gone on, it has increased exponentially, that is to say that in the last 50 years, it has risen far more than it did in the prior 50 years.
Now if you compare what 1900 and 1950s were like to 2004, how much more do you think we can progress with all these new technologies, increased populations, and need for more resources, etc, not to mention the increased pace of living, the increased pace of consumerism etc.
We are not going back to the dark ages, we are growing, expanding, and getting ricjer by the minute.
