James Tanis, President of Bougainville, leaves off to London! Shortly after his one-week-trip to Australia on invitation of the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, ABG-President James Tanis will fly to London on Dec 4th. It is quite probable that he will meet high-level Rio Tinto managers in the RT Head Quarter next week. Rio Tinto owns 53 percent of Bougainville Copper Limited (BOC) that had to shut down mining of one of the world’s biggest copper open pits, the Panguna mine, 20 years ago due to local unrest also known as the "Bougainville Crisis". If the Panguna mine will be re-opened, it will produce copper, gold and silver for 1.5 billion US$ per year. BOC owns Panguna and seven more leases.
