Hi Antmusic,
I had to stop and think for a moment about what you said about the Sullivans, from memory it was a series about an Australian family during World War Two.
I think you are alluding to the fact that it dragged on monotonously as well.
I have only recently become directly involved in the stock market as of about September.
My last experience was around 1987 when I managed to turn $15000 into worthless share certificates in companies which has long since disappeared apart from Ariadne.
The only reason my wife has trusted me to have a dabble again is that we had a number of managed funds which had been averaging about 20% returns over the previous 3 years prior to last years GFC when the market took a heavy hit.
I had said to our financial planner that these levels of returns could not be sustained and that we needed an exit strategy. I wanted to sell down these funds and lock in our profits. While my wife agreed she didn't see the urgency and the financial planner trotted out the old line about investing for the medium to long term and that shares go up and down bla bla bla!.
Anyway we lost 40-50 % and sure markets have rebounded, but where would we be now if we had sold and bought in when the market crashed. I think there is a lot of truth in that idea that "cash is king"
I have probably gambled with my investments and particularly MST. Even now I refuse to sell out when I could save almost half of my stake in MST.
I dont know whether thats smart or not, maybe I dont want to admit defeat.
Why i am telling you all this is that you have said something very complimentary I thank you for that, but I have an equal respect for others here and I consider myself to be facing a steep learning curve. Whilst I am still learning about the stock market i have had a lot of different life experiences having trained, qualified and worked in many totally different fields. I guess this makes me a 'jack of all trades master of none".
Now getting back to your question, Sorry I dont know of any similar scenarios that we are now facing and I thinks its farcical and almost unbelievable that this is happening and being allowed to happen.
I guess expressing our thoughts and feeling here helps us deal with this better.
Cheers I wouldn't mind a VB right now i'll have to go and raid my sons supply as I only have red wine at the moment .
Have a good weekend all,
Nothing has fundamentally changed the $$$ are still coming and so is Christmas.
ENJOY
