A buyback would spook the market. Buybacks are for mature companies. To enact a buyback now would suggest that there are no growth/acquisition options which is what investors have been sold on. You don't buy BET for the company it is now, you buy for the potential. If acquisitions aren't part of enhancing that potential then the proposition is less attractive.
