Hi WTT,
ATC are well progress with HPA coating of Silicon and Graphite.
The HPA coating replaces the current carbon coating of spherical graphite, where it reduces the first cycle loss, stops the silicon from cracking and provides thermal regulation, where the batteries stop thermal run away.
It is a very exciting development for ATC, FYI and EGR,
IMO the HPA coating with be a cheaper alternative to current Carbon based coating, plus it offers all the benefits above.
All 3 companies just need to move the lab scale tests to commercial scale to move the concept into an industry accepted form.
