That slide doesn't really change anything I said - in that from the showroom an ICE car has a lower footprint, but on a whole of life basis it is larger. That slide indicates parity at 5 years, and most cars will last at least 3x that.
That slide doesn't mention what type of energy is being used to charge the EV to get those figures but judging by the slop of the EV line it is based on some fairly carbon intensive energy, likely the US average energy mix, or worse. Energy grids are rapidly decarbonising, with closures of fossil fuel power stations being accelerated, and solar and wind by far the cheapest form of bulk energy now.
So a few important points - the slope of an ICE car carbon footprint will not change, but that of an EV will over its lifespan, If you buy a brand new model 3 tesla today in Australia and plug it into our predominantly coal fired grid, in 15-20 years time when that car is scrapped it will have been charging from close to 100% renewables. So its carbon footprint would appear more logarithmic than linear, rolling off towards flat at the top.

Carbon footprint parity for EVs today range from about 78,000 miles for 100% coal fired power, down to 8,400 miles when charged from 100% hydroelectric power if you lived in tasmania or scotland for example.

Typical lifespan of a Tesla battery is around 500,000 miles now, and the benchmark for next gen batteries is double that.

Then you have the second life options for EV batteries after their use in a vehicle - they can be used for stationary storage when they are no longer viable for transport due to reduced range. So the initial carbon footprint of 9 tonnes is spread over other uses not just the vehicle.

Clearly in the next decade the technological improvements in EVs will accelerate in leaps and bounds, whereas ICE cars have been around for 100 years and really are not going to see much in the way of further breakthroughs from here.

I don't disagree that there is a long way to go to make the clean transport dream a reality for everyone, but I don't think we should be clinging to ICE vehicles any longer than we need to. EVs are viable, and cleaner right now, and this will only improve over time.
