You must have missed the 2014 coup against a Democratically Elected Gov of Ukraine then.

Note, the Soviet Union is in the past. That's for propaganda machines to bring up, in order to influence the feelings of ordinary people. And btw, its how they manufactured consent for wars; simply by portraying these conflicts as "Good vs Evil".

And its easy to do, as most people grew up on a diet of Good vs Evil cartoons and movies - such as Superman, Captain America, Lord of the Rings, The Avengers.

Of course, everybody wants to be on the "Good" side, fighting against the "Evil" Sauron, even though they had no idea, they have been used.

And that is all they (propagandists) have to do: press those subliminal buttons and most will fall into line.

Nonetheless, we are dealing with Russia versus Ukraine in 2022, not the Soviet Union of the past.

At the end of the day, Russia's pre-emptive invasion of Ukraine is like Israel's pre-emptive invasion of Arab states; simply to solve its existential threat. Nothing more and nothing less.

Of course, the unfortunate thing is, it has tragic consequences for ordinary people who had been invaded.

But those invasion/s have nothing to do with moral rights, democratic rights or human rights. These kind of things are for the propaganda department to conjure up to sell to people, to motivate them to fight - such as asking grannies and teenagers to take up arms.

Modern wars are all about achieving or protecting strategic interests. Note, the people of Vietnam, Syria, Cuba, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Grenada, Yemen and others didn't have a choice about who they could ally with or whether their country should be invaded.

In a perfect utopian world, these kind of things (wars) does not happen - that would mean there would be no "good vs evil" narratives. But we live in the reality where countries are fearful of each other: they fear so much of their rival/s that they would spend tens of billions to hundreds of billions each year on their military weapons and war games.

Finally, as I have said on numerous occasions before this conflict began and since; I truly hope both sides could negotiate a peaceful way out.

Otherwise, Ukraine will either end up like Syria or worse yet, the place where WW3 began.

Then we all die. There is no place to hide when those nuclear missiles start flying.
