NATO the alliance created to provide defence against the threat of Soviet aggression has expanded since 1998 (some 7 years after the Soviet Union collapsed, and the Warsaw Pact was dissolved).
Nonetheless, since 1998, US have connived in financially supporting rebellions in regions close to Russia, the current US State Department under secretary, Victoria Nuland, has admitted this deliberate policy.
Anyway, here's the expansion of NATO (in red) since 1998. An expansion that has taken place AFTER the threat NATO was created to address had been dissolved. To the "Putin is the only bad guy" crowd, you should at least acknowledge that he is on the other side of a war with the same group that has lied and destroyed nations for the past 30 years, and if you can't do that, then how about you find a world leader who wouldn't react to a deliberate policy of foreign military expansion right to their border.
