Corrupt frameworks that are established to protect a dear leader tend to collapse when that dear leader is gone.

The residual power of the business oligarchs would remain but these guys are more interested in making money and for that they need peace and certainty. Most have no interest in a resurrected USSR.

My wild guess is that the Russian oligarchy would prefer to align with Europe and become its centrepiece through business ties.
