USA would only retaliate in the event of nuclear attack, not launch an attack. You are trying to spin history. Kennedy had a sperch prepared, but not to say that they started a war with the USSR. So don't give me that BS about America starting a nuclear war, because they know what that would mean to America and the world. To start a nuclear war you need some crazy on control, so Kennedy would never have started a nuclear war. That throws your explanation to the scrap heap of alterd events.
