It seems odd that they are considering listing this bird as endangered whilst at the same time it is allowed to be hunted...only in the US.
I wonder what the implications would be for the mining industry if the listing was successful come February. I doubt that it would place a halt on all applications - the state cannot afford to lose the mining industry. Probably companies looking for mining permits would be required to jump more hoops before they are granted. Although given the nature of ISR you wouldn't think it would cause much disturbance to the bird's habitat - at least no more than what all the exploration drilling to date has caused.
