As a holder for 10 years, buying more, then more along the way (at cheaper prices, if you get my implication there), I consider that I have contributed time, sweat, multiply-thwarted-hope, money and opportunity to achieve those "accumulated losses" - I so do hope that they will return a benefit to me!
