This can be verified by going to the BOM site and checking the Darwin temperature records. I used the data for the Annual Mean Maximum Temperature direct from the BOM database which can be freely accessed by anyone.
There are 2 records, the Darwin Post Office from about 1880 until 1941, and Darwin Airport from 1941 until present, making both about 60 years long.
The fact that they point of recording changed is totally irrelevant if it is the trends that are examined, the record would only have to be calibrated if we were examining actual temperatures relative to one another.
These records are interesting because the early one shows a downward trend of about 2 degrees over the 60 years and the later one shows an upward trend of about 1 degree also over about 60 years, making current annual mean maximum temperatures about 1 degree cooler now than that of the 1880's.
This is not dodgy science, but official government data.
