Everyone seems to have overlooked shorts as a form of hedging... what does a fund do, that's mandated to buy avz while it's in the asx200, if it doesn't actually want exposure to avz? Well, you short against your forced hold... if sp goes down you cover loss n shares with gains on the short, if sp goes up your loss on the short is offset against the gains on the shares....

Not everyone that has to buy up asx200 wants speculative exposure to avz...
