It is designed shake out shares from traders thinking it has broken support and about to tank. Then the manipulators suck up those shares before letting it run. Textbook move. They wouldn’t be pulling this move if they just wanted to tank the sp, in fact they will do the opposite and pull a bull trap. The also used the gap to enhance the uncertainty.
