Allow me to dispute slightly your figures: yes, junior IT jobs in Portugal pay a net monthly salary of 1000-1200Euros but there are fourteen payments per year and the taxes+social security contributions+ insurances are very high. The gross cost for the company of this junior IT employee will be around 30-35k euros/year.
And more senior roles will be proportionally more expensive.
so yes, cheaper than Australia but not penny-cheap
