    Coming up to the last election, the idea of getting rid of negative gearing was bandied about.

    The blowback was pretty strong. Lots of vested interests there.

    That said, it does drive the housing industry somewhat. If you took away negative gearing incentives, how many new houses would be built ? We might create a greater lack of housing problem.

    Or, we'd have to increase the return with higher rents which would create a whole new set of problems.

    Australia needs tax reform. We are bumbling along with an antiquated system that is difficult to understand and manage.

    Reform the tax system and possibly fix the housing problem along the way.
