If Verus were doing this on their own I'd be highly suspicous but remember it's GGP that's doing all the drilling. Verus is merely an observer like the rest of us.
GGP have a proven track record. I doubt they would bother drilling a well, knowing there is nothing there. So right now IMO we know as much as they do and until we get closer to the target depths all this is just a magic show.
