You ever tried holding lithium or mercury in your hands?Gold and silver are preferred because they both barely tarnish and are fairly "hard", silver obviously tarnishes with sulfides (farts, etc) but it can be reversed. They both don't oxidize easily which is obviously a concern on planet Earth with its 20% oxygen.
A wise man once told me you can tell how many farts a person does daily by the tarnish of their silver.
