One of Redmans parting gifts because they didn't know what to do (IMO) was to increase the dividend payout ratio (to 100% of underlying profit) - in an attempt to maintain the dividend (and hopefully share price) when the NEM market prices were falling - needless to say it did not work.
It was a spectacularly stupid thing to do... leaving nothing for future investment or debt reduction - but clearly - board and management were clueless on how to turn the ship around... hence why AGL heads to demerger.
