the unique position that you are in, where you are what you are despite all the stuff, within the billions of years of existance of stuff. the odds are that you have always being alive in one form or another. best to be investigate the processes that we choose to involve ourselves with, because we could be the recipient of the consequences of them. it is arrogance to deny that possibility. either what you do matters, or what you do doesn't matter. if you choose to live by the first option, how can you be prepared for the 2nd then consider visa versa
