to me it's more of just a piece of additional information, in deciding whether to buy or sell for my mid to long term holding, the data are lagging 2 days so it probably is quite useless for DT, and also knowing the background of your stock and read this in conjunction with the charts will help.
For example, QPM was coming down from 28c high and the chart was showing reversal signs, the broker data showed a constant selling from instos for many days, so you get to pick up this info and decide whether you want to exit for now and buy back later.
another example is the ones pumped by Next investors, I can always see that retailers are rushing in when they released their little "update" emails, and those days are usually sell day for them.
