First phase H2 offtake is going into the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline
The Dampier to Bunbury pipeline can only handle 10% H2 by volume, but since H2 has a very low volumetric energy density, that equates to only about 2% energy content. Phase 1 of the HyEnergy project would produce 2.6 GW worth of hydrogen, way more than the DBNG pipeline can handle. They need to be looking at export options, even for phase 1.
Ammonia et al is going to be a byproduct of what they’ll be producing at Carnarvon
Ammonia isn't a byproduct, it's one option for transporting the hydrogen produced, ie it would be sold as a final product. Production of ammonia requires specialist production plant which is a huge investment.
