So....The first hole went all the way down to 430 metres?!
Sounds like it was getting close to the limits of the drilling depth capability.

My guess of being on the third hole is a bit optimistic it seems, however I did speculate that the first couple of holes were very likely to be deep holes and the second may in fact be a scissor hole of the first to nut out the geological controls.

So that's at least 330 metres of core to pour over and analyse.
Walk that out on an oval for perspective!
2000m x 1000m is a massive area to be mineralised, indicating there is a very large source of gold somewhere close

I guess that they liked what they saw and just kept on drilling to gain a greater understanding of what lies beneath the lake.
Bearing in mind Kanowna Belle they were mining down to 1000 metres.
