The second borehole to confirm historical data on the potash salt deposits in the Ohm Mountains is currently still running at Worbis. Since mid-March, the first drilling by Südharz Kali GmbH, which intends to revive potash mining in the region, has been completed. Meanwhile, the potash salt kernels brought to light have been examined in a laboratory and the evaluation is available.

The results of the chemical and geological analyses of the drill core give rise to great optimism and joy among those responsible for the company. Babette Winter, regional manager for Germany, will announce this on Friday. According to Winter, the test results of borehole "OHM-02" showed a potash salt thickness of around eleven metres in length with an average content of 14.4 percent potassium oxide (K2O). Over a four-metre-long section, the potassium content is even significantly higher at 19.7 percent. With these results, values of a historic borehole have been confirmed, says the regional manager.

The borehole called "OHM-02" near Haynrode was to supplement and confirm the borehole "Kal Wr 6 Liese", which was carried out in 1906 at a distance of 148 metres east of the current borehole. At that time, 5.5 metres of mineralised potash salt rocks with an average content of 15.72 percent potassium oxide (K2O) were documented. The stratification of the three differently mineralised potash horizons, with different compositions, now found, corresponds to those of the adjacent historical mines of the southern Harz potash district," explains Winter.

Stock assessment of the area is to be updated

Meanwhile, the work on the second borehole "OHM-01" near Worbis is progressing well, according to the regional manager. The aim is to fully penetrate the well-known potash horizon in this area to a depth of 813 metres. The borehole is designed as a twin of the historic borehole "Kal Ktf 5/83" from 1983. At that time, a three-metre potash section of 785.2 metres to 788.2 metres with a content of 12.4 percent potassium oxide was documented," says Winter.

With the analysis results from both wells, South Harz Potash Ltd., the Australian parent company of Südharz Kali GmbH, wants to have the stock valuation for the area updated. Subsequently, a comprehensive study, a preliminary technical and economic evaluation, for the mine ownership "Ohmgebirge" should be published.

We are very pleased with the excellent examination results. They show a very good correlation with the nearby historical hole. This underpins our confidence in the accuracy of the historical data that we have acquired as part of the acquisition of mining licenses. This is a very important milestone for the company. We will now incorporate these results together with those of the second borehole into an updated stock assessment and the completion of a scoping study for the Ohmgebirge project," Chris Gilchrist, Managing Director of Südharz Kali, gives an insight into the further schedule.
