I think some Russians consider that there has been a strong anti-Russian movement targeting those Russians in Eastern Ukraine for some years. This could also have been a factor in his decision.

I understand, as you're not Russian, you're neither qualified to define what it means to be "anti-Russian" or even able to comment on the same. At least that would be the case if you were ever the tiniest bit consistent in your allocation of "victim rights" and who is allowed to define and comment on them.

I believe that when you refer to “Russians in Eastern Ukraine” you actually mean the Eastern Ukrainian Russian-speaking Ukrainians.
