Indeed there is research that eludes to this too. Ie the researchers are suggesting earlier the better. A lot of the signs, specially radiographically are way too late. Even pain is usually later onset. Its through the monitoring of the biochemical markers that would be a good test as to perhaps when to start a course of iPPS?
There are certain biomarkers for OA that are better than others, COMP for example but there are at least a few others, CTX-II (detectable in the urine) is also one of the main ones... easily trackable via a blood test and/or urine test.
