Renting is a terrible word in Australia.
It's used to describe those wasters who do not work enough to own their own home and to make matters worse they were often renting weatherboard houses which was another mark of low social standing and standards
As renters were such low people they designed Tenancy Laws to suit and like the Lords of old the landlord was never ever expected to do any work on the property.
So the result is that the legal framework for renting is archaic and unsuitable for today's world
But it has been altered along the way to satisfy the noisy socialists so that the down and outs can do whatever they like, as long as they are happy to live in a dump
Now with property prices on a excessive figures the rents are following and in many cases people who have owned rental homes for many years are getting 40% return on their original investment which is usually a time when governments bring in rent control, but no chance of that
When you have government (all sorts) who do not understand the mechanics of why they are making laws, what hope do we have as they all believe in "not making waves"
As a final point the legislative section is also in on the scam, and frequently make rulings based on the landlords exalted rights, as to the tenancy boards they are so wrapped up in red tape the person who can't afford legal help is doomed
