The rumor of the Canadian's presence at the Azovstal factory has been circulating since April 28 after the official representative of the People's Militia of the Donestsk Republic, Eduard Basurin , announced the possible presence of a retired general from the Canadian army in Azovstal, without giving the name.
The general has been the subject of all fantasies since his arrival in Ukraine, some accusing him of even being responsible for a “bio-laboratory” working “on deadly viruses, such as Ebola or Nipah” and of having been arrested for trial in Moscow.
If the presence of the former Canadian lieutenant-general in Ukraine has been confirmed, his arrest has not been corroborated by official Russian sources so far. No image of the arrest of Trévor Cadieu has been released by the Russian media to date.
The allegations against Trévor Cadieu recall those having targeted Roger Cloutier, an American lieutenant general of NATO, supposedly captured in Mariupol. Again, the images purporting to show his arrest, and the information itself, turned out to be false.
