Putin turned his attention to the South and now Ukraine is regaining territory on the East, I guess he will sacked more Generals again. It was always a difficult war to win by occupation given the size of Ukraine, hence Putin stated this but he has no choice now. A competent army (and Ukraine has proven to be well above this) with assistance of modern military equipment would have been able to defend Ukraine but now they are pushing back.
