All depends what you consider long term, coal was dead in 2010 and again 2016 and here we are in 2022? and a quick check of the fuel mix on the AEMO website shows its well and truly still kicking with nothing of the same base load supply under construction to replace it.
I'd love to see Sydney and Melbourne have a couple of days in the dark to reconsider their position. Base load energy is the key factor, nuclear is our best option, but the greens won't allow that either. See you in 2026! Maybe invest in candles with all your intelligence!
