totally. but upfront costs/affordability and payback period is what most people look at though. And, most people these days don't think of living in their house for next 20 years (this seemed to have changed in recent generations - houses have become transitionary). I have a self imposed ban from buying cheap crap. I don't like things wearing out too quickly meaning I'm happy to pay a little more for quality.
Another example, we carry around in our pocket a device so powerful, but how often do you upgrade your phone? And why? It's a mentality shift in current generation (I'm not that old, just aware that fridges used to last 20+ years).
Again in business terms, most companies. use a 5 year lifespan for equipment deeming maintenance costs after that time expensive.
BTW, I'm with your statement on 20+ yr life of vrfb's. It's just not how most ppl think these days.
