For shitz n giggles, I googled the word solder. I then expanded the terms of reference to include what metals are in solder, components of solder, parts of solder, etc.

In every search, the word tin came up first, and repeatedly. Even wikipedia.

I then googled solder suppliers and solder availability. Also critical metals. Strangely enough, tin is classified as a critical metal.
THEN, solder supply and future supply. I will use one picture reference, primarily because it is an official US govt article.

The primary region for tin production is SE ASIA, of which Indonesia is one supplier. They supply approximately 16% of the world's tin, with supplies thought to last approximately 15 more years. Hence, them limiting supply, as well posted by another member previously.

Why am I babbling on you ask?

Pretty simply, You can buy an Aussie cobalt junior for around 80c, of which produce nothing as yet, and have a mine life of around 7 years. Another critical metal.

What everyone seems to forget is that without solder, much of our current lifestyle won't actually work. If we can find another alternative, no doubt the costs of production will rise anyway, and will take years for manufacturers to re-tool, after decades of solder reliance.

So, tell me why we see a fairly profitable producer, in a politically and financially stable region, sells at 47c/ps?

    I am simply mystified.

No wonder I drink a lot....
