At the rate below it will add $3692 onto my son inlaw for this coming year, and about $2000 each for both my sons.
I'm sure they will all be happy with all that.

Labor’s policy change would come at a time when the Australian Taxation Office has raised the repayment rate for HECS debt to 3.9 per cent, up from 0.6 per cent the previous financial year.

Indexation is added to student debt each year on June 1 to bring the amount into line with its real value by adjusting it to the cost of living.

The average HECS debt in Australia is about $23,685.

When the repayment rate was 0.6 per cent that would have added $142.11 to a person’s HECS balance in a year.

But now that it’s 3.9 per cent it means a person with that level of student debt will have $923 added to what they owe.
