great post - while personally supporting a managed transition to a larger renewables mix, current adversarial efforts are a joke with all sides responsible. You're point about the difficulty of new or large maintenance investment in non- renewable supply is bang on - even if you have or find resources, financiers wont lend and boards wont risk a 10 year plus pay back period on a large supply project in the current political and social environment. far easier and potentially more profitable to let existing supply run down, prices increase and expect the good old consumer to pick up the tab - while of course pointing the finger at others or circumstances beyond their control. positions and decisions are made without due consideration of life cycle risk / reward, impact on supply and ultimately our pockets. long energy is my risk mitigation.
