The problem for Australian agribusiness assets like Namoi is that it is too small to compete on a global scale. Over the past 30 years or so we saw most of the old grain storage and handling and marketing organisations merge across state borders seeking scale and market share. The amalgamated company in South Australia (can't recall its name) was taken over by one of the majors. ADM would have taken GrainCorp if not for the local politics.
Louis Dreyfus would be an obvious candidate to take the Namoi assets, if they are prepared to ride out the wet and dry cycles that are a feature of cotton growing in Australia. Them, ADM, Cargill and Bunge have the deep pockets and the expertise to run big global operations. Namoi might be a nice pick up for one of them.
