Read my link and understand temperature varies all the time and is affected by so many factors that a simple hand held test is useless for anything other than confirming it was too cold to go swimming

In Qld Sunshine Coast you can test in two area's about 50 km apart and get big differences in the temp due to the different current flow in that particular area
